The Deeper Meaning of Leaf
Existence is futile
Name:Jolly Grumpy
Birthdate:1977-00-00
BioNB: This journal is a mirror/place-holder. I am most active at LiveJournal.

Jolly Grumpy is a cancerian recluse --a hermit crab, if you will-- and has no desire to meet anyone. Ever. She also talks to herself and is a renowned Private Consulting Housework Avoidance Strategist.

Her husband looks remarkably like Mr Bean, sounds like [the original] Marvin the Paranoid Android and has the temperament of Victor Meldrew. He has a thing for Bach and Trollope, wears a deerstalker, and writes poetry. Together they drink a lot of tea and manage two small children, Tig(ger) & Roo.

From earliest childhood Jolly Grumpy has had a thing for Sherlock Holmes and a compulsion to leave her shoes facing North in perfect alignment with each other. Since she has never met a chocolate that she didn't like -- no, not even the hard toffee centres -- she owns a small potbelly called Munchkin and a large bottle of 'Gaviscon Advance'.

Although supremely 'unlikely to take part in evening games' Jolly Grumpy is game for almost anything, except telephones, during most other periods of the day, but usually spends her free time reading.

Jolly Grumpy can be alarmingly tenacious, but is probably not a stalker.

Add/Remove and Commenting

Otherwise known as the Friending and Joining In Policy.

I've written this bit because people are often unsure about LJ friending and commenting etiquette, which, let's face it, some people are down right rude about. Everyone, it seems, has their own ideas about it. The following are some of mine.

In Short: If you can, then you may; if can't, then you may not. Capricious adders of the world . . . Oh, shiny!

At Length: Most public entries are open to comment from all, whether acknowledged friend, temporary visitor or passer through. Anonymous comments are usually allowed, but not always.

Lurkers are welcome. It is neither necessary to seek permission before adding me to your f'list nor to let me know that you have done so. Equally, I shan't be offended if you friend me for a time and then unfriend me, without comment, when you get bored/come to your senses. I promise I shan't port to your journal demanding explanation.

This is not to say that I have anything against people commenting to introduce themselves and say hello (or to say good bye), if that is their way.

There is a certain Professor of Melanesian languages in Penang with who I have been arguing by letter for thirty years about the root of the simple Papuan word redatt which, as some of you may know, means 'unlikely to take part in evening games'.

--Trefusis and Redatt (Stephen Fry)

'Not only can it [the diary] persuade us to betray the self, it tempts us to betray our fellows also, becoming thereby an 'alter ego' sharing with us the denigrations which we would be ashamed of voicing aloud; a diary is an assassin's cloak which we wear when we stab a comrade in the back with a pen. And here is this diary proving its culpability to its own harm - for how much on this page is true to the others?'

--William Soutar, Scottish Poet and Diarist
